. . . a farmer named Amos, and his wife Beth, lived on a dairy farm near Moline, Illinois. One day, while working in his farm shop, Amos invented a steel pitchfork,
which he found very useful for pitching hay into the hayloft.
Speculating that his steel pitchfork might be useful to other farmers, Amos made more pitchforks and
attempted to market his invention to neighboring farmers.
But alas, Amos did not have the marketing skills and business contacts necessary for success and soon
abandoned his brief agrimarketing career. He spent the rest of his life pitching hay and milking cows. His surname is lost to history and only an old portrait of
himself, his wife and his steel pitchfork remains.
His neighbor John invented a steel plow. However, John recognized he lacked the marketing skills and did not
have the business contacts necessary for success in marketing his steel plows to farmers.
Addressing this deficiency, John hired some talented agrimarketing people
and contracted with some creative agrimarketing agencies to manage the marketing, advertising, publicity and public relations of his steel plows.
Without a doubt,
John and his steel plow, and
the company he founded, are today recognized as one of the best agrimarketing firms of products and services to farmers near Moline, as well as farmers around the
world.
